A new path to self-reliance: tricycles and wheelchairs for people with disabilities in Mumbai

Healthcare

With the support of KONE Elevator India, Sahara Jan Kalyan Samiti distributed tricycles and wheelchairs to people with disabilities and mobility challenges at Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital, Mumbai, helping them move independently and with dignity.

For a person with a disability, the ability to move freely is about far more than getting from one place to another. It means reaching work, a hospital, school or the market without depending on others. For many families with limited means, a tricycle or a wheelchair remains out of reach.

A new path to self-reliance

On 11 February 2026, Sahara Jan Kalyan Samiti, with the support of KONE Elevator India Private Limited, organised a Tricycle Distribution Programme at the Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital campus in Juhu, Mumbai. Under this programme, [number] tricycles and [number] wheelchairs were given to people with disabilities and patients with mobility challenges.

The programme was held in the presence of the hospital's doctors, staff and members of the Samiti. Beneficiaries and their families were also guided on the safe use and care of their new mobility aids.

A new tale of dignity

"A New Path to Self-Reliance, A New Tale of Dignity"

For the beneficiaries, a tricycle or wheelchair means freedom: the freedom to step out of the house, to visit the hospital on their own, and to take part in daily life with confidence. It also eases the burden on family members who would otherwise have to assist them at every step.

Our gratitude

We thank KONE Elevator India Private Limited for its support, and the administration, doctors and staff of Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital for hosting the programme and helping identify the beneficiaries.
